How did you get started in a career of Support Work?
My friend asked if I would be interested in becoming a Support Worker. She explained it all to me then organised an interview. I was successful and I have been doing it ever since.
How long have you been supporting Brodie for, and can you tell us a little bit about the sorts of things you and her do together?
Almost seven years. We spend a fair amount of time together doing various activities including swimming, music group and I support Brodie at her weekly AAC (Augmented Alternative Communication) group. She is a very busy young lady!

“A friend recently commented that I am one of those people who love their job and is happy to go to work, so true! I’ve had so many wonderful opportunities supporting Brodie on many activities, holidays and conferences. Brodie skiing was a definite highlight, she’s such a dare devil.”
What is your approach to Supporting Clients?
Simply treating people as I would expect someone to support me or my loved ones.
“It’s great working for CPSN, they are only a phone call away for any queries or issues. They also provide extra training & help, like the Mental Health First Aid.”
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about a career as a Support Worker?
Do it! It’s a great job, you can work as little or as much as you like. The hours are also flexible.

When you are not working, what are your interests and passions?
I love getting out and about with my hubby and two daughters in our caravan. I enjoy reading. At the moment I’m doing a lot of walking as Karen (Brodie’s Lead Support Worker) and I are training to walk the Surf Coast Trek with Brodie. We love walking at the You Yangs.
