Behind CPSN with Sharon: Meet our Client Liaison Co-ordinator

alisonhibbert

Sharon Marendaz is our extremely busy Client Liaison Co-ordinator, who ensures that CPSN’s client activities schedules run smoothly, and they have the correct support worker matched with them to help them in their everyday tasks. Checking in with them regularly is  important, and Sharon provides them with the necessary tools and training for upskilling and furthering their qualifications.

Sharon facilitates many of our Mental health First Aid Training sessions which has enabled her to travel on the road meeting many Support Workers and CPSN staff members.

She believes mental health and wellbeing is extremely important, particularly away from work, where she is an active participant in Yoga and Pilates and meditates daily.

“I enjoy connecting with people and helping where I can, to make a difference in their lives. I love to chat but I’m also a good listener.”

Working in the sector over the past eight years has given Sharon a greater understanding of Cerebral Palsy and disability generally. It has highlighted further her personal awareness of the challenges and barriers people face in the community.

“Not everyone with a disability is the same. I constantly see parents/guardians being burnt out with the constant fight with NDIS to source the appropriate funding.”

Sharon enjoys coming to work every day with such a caring, responsive and supportive team.

Before joining CPSN, Sharon worked for Qantas Airways for over 20 years, in various roles including Human Resources, where she facilitated learning and development training. She says that joining CPSN was different to what she was used to doing when she started, and it was like “learning a new language” with much to learn about the NDIS roll out.

Sharon believes there is much more work to be done in the NDIS sector, and that more training should be provided for planners regarding assessing everyone’s needs.

“The NDIS [needs] to have a better understanding of clients with complex needs. I don’t think the NDIS planners are well trained & apply a ‘one size fits all’ rather than understanding an individual’s needs.”

In her spare time, Sharon loves dining out, cooking for friends, going on nature walks and watching cooking shows.
