Behind CPSN with Vernel: Meet our Accountant

Vernel Alberto is CPSN’s accountant, known for his precision and process automation. He’s passionate about inclusive workplaces such as ours and enjoys solving many financial challenges.

Vernel Alberto is an extremely valuable and important part of our finance team and has worked with us for the past eight years.

He loves working with numbers and problem solving and feels truly happy working with CPSN, enjoying our team’s passion around workplace inclusivity and advocacy.

Apart from having an eagle eye for detail, Vernel has also automated many of our key day-to-day operational financial processes.

Before joining CPSN, Vernel volunteered his time in a Bookkeeping, Finance, and Tax Compliance role at Tree Project, a not-for-profit Community organisation. Tree Project is dedicated to restoring ecosystems and rehabilitating damaged land and vegetation through revegetation and Environmental initiatives across regional Victoria.

What motivates you in the work you do?

I'm passionate about using my accounting skills to help CPSN thrive. I believe that accurate financial management is essential for CPSN’s success.

Vernel values our approach to workplace flexibility, and working remotely has allowed him to maintain a great work-life balance while staying productive and engaged in his role.

Did you ever imagine pursuing a career outside of Finance and Accounting?

Growing up, my childhood dream was to be a Civil Engineer, driven by my love for numbers. That path eventually shifted because of my mother's advice that led me towards finance and accounting, where I found a different kind of problem-solving (that I truly enjoy).

Are there any common misconceptions about CP and the Disability Ecosystem?

A common misconception is the assumption that people with CP have intellectual disabilities.
I've met many people with CP, and they're just as intellectually diverse as anyone else.

In the future, Vernel hopes to see the NDIS claiming process streamlined to become simpler and more user-friendly, helping reduce administrative burdens on the sector.

What are your top three tips you can share with us that you’ve learnt over the years from being in your role and having the life experience that you do?

1. Manage time efficiently, focusing on more important things.

2. Be an active listener.

3. Embrace failure as part of the growth process.

When Vernel isn’t crunching numbers or reconciling end of year budgets, in his spare time you might see him enjoying the outdoors, exploring new places, such as National parks or scenic trails, working out at his local gym, and trying new foods.

At CPSN, we take the time to ensure that we recruit the right people for the right roles, like Vernel. From time to time we have various roles available to join our team. You can find out more about our current employment vacancies here. If you prefer, call us on (03) 9478 1001. We're here to help.
